DayZ is a survival video game developed and published by Bohemia Interactive. It is the standalone successor of the mod of the same name. Following a five-year long early access period for Windows, the game was officially released in December 2018, and was released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 in 2019.
The game places the player in the fictional post-Soviet Republic of Chernarus, where a mysterious plague has turned most of the population into violent “infected”. As a survivor, the player must scavenge the world for food, water, weapons, and medicine, while killing or avoiding the infected, and killing, avoiding, or cooperating with other players in an effort to survive the outbreak.
DayZ began development in 2012 when the mod’s creator, Dean Hall, joined Bohemia Interactive to commence work on the standalone version of the game. The development has been focused on altering the engine to suit the game’s needs, developing a working client-server architecture, and introducing new features like diseases and a better inventory system. The game sold over three million copies during its early access phase.
User Score (Steam): 6.5 / 10
Bought this game back in 2017, refunded it and bought it again after it got out of early access. Boy did I thought this game got fixed. Hit Box trash, servers trash, graphics? Even worse, bro it’s 2020 and your graphic still looks 2017 wtf. The release of Livonia DLC is disgusting!!! Focus on fixing them bugs first. If your planning to buy this game I suggest don’t as it is very non noob friendly. The game is inhabited by players with hundreds and thousands of hours competing inland while you struggle for food in the coast. Devs are incompetant, look at all those Dayz clones, tell me one that’s worse than dayz. The game’s got a good idea but the devs are not gonna make it true. Save your money for deadmatters when it comes out.
If you’re looking for a proper zombie game, you’re gonna be pretty disappointed. Almost no effort was put into the few zombies in this game, they’re pretty much an afterthought. In fact, the actual gameplay draws a lot closer to “PubG but with occasional zombies as minor nuisances.” It’s clearly focused on the PvP side of things, while the PvE experience is laughable. Once you’ve collected a bunch of gear there’s really nothing left to do atm.
Even though the game is full of glitches and bugs its still a fun game to play when u got some spare time it has an active mod community so if u dont like the vanilla play there will always be a server that will be what ur looking for overall i would still recommend this game despite all the bugs and glitches
Nice survival game. People complain about cheaters, but I have not seen one in 60 hours of play in mainly 1pp official servers.
The survival elements are more dangerous than the other players for the most part. When you are a newb, your focus should be on learning how to craft basic items and how to survive. Learn how to make fire, cook, kill and slaughter animals, fish (making a fishing pole, getting bait, and making hooks). One of the most important items you need is a knife. If you don’t have a knife, it is going to be hard to survive.
Of course, you need to find weapons, but you will not need to use them if you can’t survive. I run into other players about once every three hours of gameplay. Each encounter usually ends up in someone’s death. Don’t get attached to your loot. You are going to lose it.
One of my all time favorite games. Definitely not for everybody, It can be a very brutal experience. Mods can help make it an easier and quicker to get into experience though. Don’t let my hours in game fool you, I unfortunately come from console and that was where I got to first experience dayz in all it’s glory lol. I don’t know offhand what my hours were but it would scare me to find out lol. To sum it up, if you like survival games that are more focused on realism that don’t hold your hand and walk you through things you should love this game.
I have bought this game over a few days ago to keep me entertained over our second national lock down. I have barely scratched the surface of the game, but this is was 18 hours of nothing short of amazing game time. If you like survival games that makes your heart race, that makes you question what is it going to kill me know (is it cholera, famine, dysentery, thirst, bear or a random even more scared than you survival that is trigger happy?), you have to try this one! Best of luck, and … get ready to die … a lot :D
This game does have some bugs but at the same time is one of a kind and one of the best survival games out there. Its a game that requires patience and is very rewarding when killing somebody or getting good loot. Its very realistic and good to play with friends. However the zombie ai looks dated and at night the game is difficult and not enjoyable to play.
You should totally buy this game if you have patience and overlook some bugs.
This game has come a long way since I first bought it. When I had bought it ages ago when it was early early early alpha and broken as all get out, I had immediately uninstalled it, now I am glad to have not refunded it. It still has its issues, but it also has a lot of good things going for it now that Bohemia has returned their focus to it after awhile of ignoring it.
Again it still has its issues, and you WILL definitely run into those! So be ready for them, but don’t let them ruin the experience for them.
It’s good, but needs improvments. This is a game after all. Sure, it’s nice with some realism like being able to trinket with weapons and many other things, but dying of hunger after running around for not even a real life 15 minutes is stupid. And that’s just one thing of many things that needs improvments. But overall, thus far, it’s a recommended game.
Pretty old title but well work the 20$ on sale. Pretty hard for a rookie to survival games like me, the learning curve is pretty steep. A good find or idea is an app with the map available. Looking for road signs to kinda get your bearings is a great idea early game when you have no clue where you are. lol Less than 10 hours in and I am hopelessly lost and out of my depth. The tension of that makes it one that really brings you emotions to the surface. Not a ton of games do that any more. Id reccomend picking it up if the deal is good enough for sure.
The best online survival game i have ever played. It is very complex so you will need to spend some time on the game to get the hang of it but it is worth it in the end. The game is very realistic and fun so if you are looking for a realistic, hardcore survival experience this is the game for you.
DayZ has so much potential but lacks in very crucial areas like time management when you are on the server. As there is nothing to do on the server apart from wait at high traffic pvp areas for action along with the basic mode of trasport, being cars, actually being usable to the point where I only played for about 5 hours on one server and my car did 20 flips in the air when my mate and I were on a dirty road and we hit nothing. AI missions are also something I would love to see to funnel and create dynamic pvp
I’m gonna be real with you. This game is 7-8 years old. It doesn’t feel like it. Both in a good and bad way. There are still tonnes of bugs and issues. Zombies act stupidly weird. It’s not really forgiving, especially for fresh spawns. If you play on Vanilla servers, you’re gonna have a bad time. Play on Community Modded servers, like PvP and RP servers, you will have a better time.
This game is best when DayZ isn’t being DayZ. It’s hard to explain, but if you’ve played it, you know what I mean.
Feeling depressed? Lonely? Miserable? Then play DayZ and enjoy the satisfaction of surviving you first day in Chernarus, finding other survivors and kindling new friendships, AND…feeling even more depressed when those same friends ultimately stab you in the back and kill you, just so they could have that awesome M4 you found. When guys with motorcycle helmets tie you up and shoot you in the head, even though you literally have nothing on you and you keep screaming “Friendly!”, the depression you feel irl won’t seem nearly as painful as the frustration you’ll feel in game. It really is therapeutic. If you enjoy suffering the slow death of starvation, or being killed as soon as you spawn in by a guy wielding a soup can, then DayZ is the game for you. I’m gonna go kill myself now…
In all honesty, DayZ is an excellent game with great mechanics and can be an epic role-play experience. Once you get past the difficult learning curve, a whole new world opens up before in which you can craft your own adventures and stories. However, there are some bugs in the system that need to be worked out but none of these are game-breaking (just stuff like zombies getting stuck in the wall and infected somehow being able to warp through doors…sometimes…not all the time). However this does not change the “EPIC” factor DayZ brings and the game is truly amazing. Would recommend…
Better played with by yourself, you’ll find yourself shuffling through friends. each character you make has its own trials and hoops it has to jump through to survive in the start. do not fall in love with gear youll always get them back learn how to make stashes and learn the map and the game will change into a whole different game!
If you’re skeptical because of the games reputation of years in early access, I understand. I was too, honestly.
After a good bit of playing, friends and enemies made, servers found and mods installed, I started to understand what this game is now compared to years ago.
It’s a lot more fleshed out, while imperfect and buggy, it feels like the best large server open world survival crafting experience on the market right now. It’s relaxing and tense at its moments and overall just a cool game.
After many ups and downs, dayz has achieved greatness, it was a long road but we got there in the end, and with the modding community this game is gone beyond what we seen almost 8 years ago, so it is with great confidence that i recommend this game. No the game is not bug free but the good time spend on it outweigh the occasional bug and crashes, and again with dayz accessing the world of modding it has make this game for more diverse and you will find a server that suits your needs. Enjoy!
This game is hot ass. The worst time waster since pooping in the sink at a gay pride rally. I would rather go to work than walk for 40 minutes just to eat a can of beans. My poops have more content than this game. This game has some foul pootey stanke you dont want.
Quite a buggy interface and many of the ways of interacting with the UI feel a bit clunky. The new spawn is meant to feel “gritty” and hard, which it achieves, but I think to a bit too high an extent - you spawn, often in the middle of nowhere, with little food, a lot of hunger, no protection and no way to quickly get your bearings. If it’s raining or dark, you’re in even more trouble. Finding food in the early game is pretty hit or miss - you either find enough to get through the first tough bit and you survive, but more often than not you spawn somewhere without any loot or very little and you just end up in a frustrating cycle of desperately searching anywhere for enough to survive… dying… spawning somewhere equally as sparse and doing the same again. Expect a few spawn attempts and a few wasted hours before you’re able to actually start playing the game.
