“There will be blood”. “The past is never dead, it’s not even past”. “All that you touch, you change”.
Wow, what a trip! I am still reeling from the experience of playing this fantastic collection of puzzle games! Developed by Dutch developer Rusty Lake and heavily inspired by Twin Peaks, the Cube Escape collection offers nine stellar Rusty Lake games that kept me enthralled and busy for many hours. The puzzles can be fiendishly difficult but the game somehow has a visceral rhythm and theme to it, making playing it almost a meditative and surreal experience.
This is in no small part to fascinating (and at times scary) story and setting. I loved the music, I loved the art and the eerie themes and catchphrases and recurring character that kept popping up around every dark corner. I always felt like there was some bigger story that I wasn’t quite getting and I loved that feeling.
In short: there wasn’t anything that I didn’t love about the Cube Escape Collection. If you like puzzle games go play these now! 9/10
It should stand as a testament to the quality of these games that, even though they are available on phones, and even though I’ve completed them on Flash sites (RIP), I still felt it was worth paying full price to pick them up again. These are some of the weirdest t hings I’ve ever played, and I mean that in absolutely the best way. Creepy puzzles, obtuse metaphors, fantastic and horrific visuals - these games are a tour de force of subtle horror.
Gelle and Hades
What a fantastic series! Being able to play them all in order, and one after the other was a real treat. I used to have to wait months in between games back in the day!!
You get A LOT of bang for your buck here - I’ve already played these games and had a basic idea of how the puzzles were solved, and I had 11 hours of game play. So just think about what a new player would get out of this!
I highly recommend this game, and if you like this one - the next stories are just as chilling! Roots is where you learn about the entire family past, while Paradise seems like it’s the family before the Vanderbooms… and they are both very creepy, and very surreal. Rusty Lake Hotel is a fantastic game in which you meet ‘souls’ of the past … but always remember:
The past is never dead – it isn’t even past.
The Hotel, Roots, Paradise, and The White Door was a joy to play through and I was waiting for this collection to come out to play the Cube Escape series. I’ve played birthday and paradox prior to the collection, but I had a blast playing all of them. Getting all 72 achievements was a tough journey, but a fun one at that! Definitely worth the buy (especially since its on sale) and I cant wait to see what Rusty Lake comes out with next!
I was more than glad to play those again. I really enjoy Cube Escape series despite it being a really simple point and click game. It’s more of an expierience than a - you know, as games are - test of “can you finish it”. It’s not too complicated nor frustrating (unless you want to unlock all of the achievements which I definetly gon do), but it’s also not too easy, therefore it is quite rewarding to finish every each episode (maybe The Cave is too long for it making you do really simple tasks but nevertheless it’s interesting). By the way - this collection is a great introduction to plot of the Rusty Lake games, which is in my opinion really nice to solve by yourself.
After all - this specific collection has its ups and downs but it’s worth its price. It will be couple of fun evenings with this for yall
I played the Cube Escape games on my phone, starting with Theater, thinking it was just another room escape game that I will just play, uninstall and forget about the day after. This was different, the bizarre style of the game engage me so I wanted to play more from the series. After finding out that the games have a story, I followed the order from the Rusty Lake page to then have a new favorite game series. This is my 5th time playing the complete series, and probably not the last one.
I’ve played the flash version of the Cube Escape, but I’m glad they decide to release on Steam. No need to worry about unsupported Flash, I can play offline, and why I prefer it over the mobile version, no ads. It’s a fun and creepy puzzle game, with an interesting story I hope they continue to develop in future games. Not too hard, not too easy, not too scary. this is what makes it one of my favourites.
A really great collection for fantastic games for a cheap price. These games are incredible and I have been a huge Rusty lake fan for some time. If you love puzzle games, and surreal imagery these games are a must have. The new achievements were hard but still fun and rewarding to get. The new hint system is alright I did not really use it at all but it seems way more convenient then using a walkthrough when you are stuck. This is one of my favorite series of all times and I am so happy it’s going to be properly preserved.
Rusty Lake has achieved the rarest achievement in gaming; transcending a genre and making its own. The Cube Escape series began as a simple above-average room escape game and evolved into something much more. If you enjoy room escape games, surrealist/absurdist art direction, haunting music, and Lynchian themes, you will LOVE anything Rusty Lake produces. I truly adore this studio and anything they produce is an automatic buy from me. If the themes and style of this series appeals to you, please check out their other works!
Bravo to Rusty Lake for preserving their history for posterity!
Months ago I found the cube escape games on mobile and instantly got hooked. Now that the collection is available on steam I can play them all in the right order and enjoy all the memorable moments all over again. I have been playing the collection since the day it came out and have been having so much fun. It was really fun figuring out all of the puzzles all over again, with some help from the hints system. I really like the hints system that was added, it helped a lot when I got stuck. Also, the music for all these games is amazing! I found the music on Spotify and have been listening to all the tracks on repeat for the past couple days. Honestly, all of these games are just so much fun and if you’re thinking of buying this game, I highly recommend it.
Rusty Lake has gotten so far since the beginning.
I remember the first time I happened upon the series via Samasara Room on Armour Games years ago. I thought it was a pretty neat surreal point-and-click game at the time, but hadn’t assumed it would become as great a series as it has. Ever since then, when I happened upon Armour Games, I’ve continued following the series. When I caught word of the Flash-pocalypse, I was worried that we might possibly lose those games, and yet Rusty Lake bestowed the Collection upon the community so that we may continue enjoying these games. And of course, the many achievements (including secrets that were originally intended for your contests in the past) were a welcome surprise. The fact that the Collection costs money while the ones found on various Flash game sites doesn’t even bother me one bit.
This is one of the series that I wish I could completely forget in order to be able to just play it all over again, and I can’t wait to see what the future (as well as the past and present) holds for Rusty Lake.
If you’re, like me, not new to the Rusty Lake series, then there is nothing I could possibly tell you about this that you don’t already know. So just buy it.
If you are new to Rusty Lake, then all I can say is try Cube Escape Paradox (it’s free) to get a feel for the games and the style, get completely hooked, then come back and buy this, and all the other Rusty Lake titles.
This has been on my wishlist for what feels like a lifetime, and it was worth every second of that wait. Without question, Rusty Lake is my favourite games series, and never disappoints.

I will lead by saying I was a contest winner, and got this game for free, but that being said, for the 4 dollar price point of the game, it is worth it. Sure each individual game is free, but something about having it in a convenient pack, and being able to look at the games in a new way, where easter eggs reward you, not just with more lore, which was already wonderful, but overall it was better because it helped me figure out that there was lore I was missing. It supports a very social, and friendly Indie company, and they need the support to keep making wonderful games. I can’t wait to see where they are going to go.
Snakes Of Spades
I could never recommend this collection enough, or any of the rusty lake games, for that matter.
The atmosphere is both peaceful (mostly) and absurd, you never know what to really expect, which makes it hard to stop playing once you’ve started.
The puzzles are challenging, which, if you play a good amount of point and click, you’ll be happy with, and i was stumped by a few here and there.
It’s such a fantastic collection, and proof that Rusty Lakes seems to never disappoint
Definitely one of my favorite game series ever. This collection of point and clicks has Twin Peaks mystery, absurdity and atmosphere written all over it without hardly speaking a word. They will suck you in to not let go and you’ll learn to love screwdrivers and matches hidden in cupboards. Clean, pretty graphics, simplistic yet satisfying gameplay and very effective soundtracks.
This Steam version adds nothing to what’s already still available for free on the website. For now it is just is a neat way to have them a bit closer to you and possibly support the creators. Also achievements have been added, if you’re into that. However the website versions are made in Flash, which is going to lose support soon. So it might be a good thing to buy it here in case things will stop working outside of Steam.
