Ark: Survival Evolved (stylized as ΛRK) is a 2017 action-adventure survival video game developed by Studio Wildcard, in collaboration with Instinct Games, Efecto Studios, and Virtual Basement. In the game, players must survive being stranded on an island filled with roaming dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals, natural hazards, and potentially hostile human players.
The game is played from either a third-person or first-person perspective and its open world is navigated on foot or by riding a prehistoric animal. Players can use firearms and improvised weapons to defend against hostile humans and creatures, with the ability to build bases as defense on the ground and on some creatures. The game has both single-player and multiplayer options. Multiplayer allows the option to form tribes of members in a server. The max number of tribe mates varies from each server. In this mode all tamed dinosaurs and building structures are usually shared between the members. There is a PvE mode where players cannot fight each other.
Development began in October 2014, where it was first released on PC as an early access title in the middle of 2015. The development team conducted research into the physical appearance of the animals, but took creative license for gameplay purposes. Egypt-based developer Instinct Games was hired to facilitate the game’s development. The game was released in August 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux, with versions for Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch in 2018; a version for Stadia is scheduled for release in early 2021. It received generally mixed reviews, with criticism for its “punishing” difficulty and reliance on grinding. Several expansions to the game have been released as downloadable content. The game begot two spin-off games in March 2018—virtual reality game ARK Park and sandbox survival game PixArk—and two companion apps: A-Calc in October 2015, and Dododex in August 2017.

ARK: Survival Evolved Reviews
This game is too hard for beginners. I played for 15 minutes and died three time as soon as I spawned in. I have watched video’s on this game and it didn’t seen interesting either so I though I might give it a try since they would it cost so much if it is bad.
This game goes free for weekends quite often, want to see why its bad, start it yup and you’ll see. Huge marks down is spawning in the mouth of ****(with a intro that plays everytime), waiting minutes for the server list, and a big one, they now working to bring consoles to pc with this dam no crossplay bs buy a copy on multiple stores now scum. Couldnt play with friend till he had to download it to steam. I couldnt find any of his servers on steam list, so it shows its going to be a thing games will start to push. Played this when it was brand new and boy did it have some trouble but also look like it could go super, thought it fixed it self but nope. Games are getting more and more scummy and here is a prime example, but the fanbase don’t care and your ****** if you don’t want this **** to stop since these dumbasses will gladly pay more and more an except inferior and less in their games. Aint it fun.
The game has no tutorial. How do open my inventory? How do I craft? How do I put things on the hotbar? I do I take them off of the hotbar? Why is my weight so low? I just ate a ******** of berries, but my hunger isn’t going up. How do I interact with things? I built a fire, but how do I start it? How do I get water? Can I drink from the ocean? How? Do I need to wait for the rain and collect water in a bucket? Etc. Etc. Etc. Etc. Besides that, I’m not sure what to do, I went fishing and got killed by a jellyfish. I went hunting and got killed by some other thing. Etc. Etc. Etc. Only play if you hate yourself.
Haha, this game is so bad. It’s like playing any normal survival game you can find on steam, but full of bugs they won’t fix, horrible user interface and covered in more glitches than Skyrim. It was fun for a while, but quickly loses it’s luster and becomes a sad excuse for a game within 12 hours.
First off, starting your game relies entirely on RNG. You wake up on an island? Guess what, there is a bird that steals your food, or raptors that harass you on spawn, or three large Dinos that are coming to ruin your life! Or how about we add all three on those if your seed is particularly bad, isn’t this fun? My first seed was fine, but then I ran into a bug where my spawn was forever under the map and I would fall to my death. I reset it and I needed to make a new map 7 separate times until I found a seed that wasn’t killing me right at spawn or a few moments after it.
The game is not an easy one to learn either, you will need to do more research than a college student preparing for their finals if you want any hope of having a good time, which shows how unintuitive this game is. Which makes playing it instantly more difficult. It lacks that enjoyable “Oh, so this is how it works” since it literally makes everything so vague or overly complicated behind menus upon menus.
Now the gameplay, is, TRASH! When you aren’t stuck in a location because the passive dinos won’t move, being tossed about by a random physics glitch, falling through the map, or the dinos you do manage to tame (When you eventually figure it out.) vanish and you have to go out on an adventure, die a few more times and eventually find them again. You can have a minuscule amount of fun, you can literally lose EVERYTHING by just the animal…waking up. Does he drop your stuff in a bag? Nope. Does he keep it for you when you knock him out again? Nope? Does he eat it and become tamed later? No. It just vanishes into the ether! Like where the rest of my ******* time went.
Drop this game, end it, put it in a fire and urinate on the corpse. This game is a waste of time and wasn’t even worth the 10 I paid for it.
I really like this game, like the adventuring aspect to it is very thrilling. I love the scenery, and you can create almost whatever you want with the building tools. I think trying to tame dinosaurs is fun, and riding them is even better. I have had a great time with ARK: Survival Evolved, and some DLCs to go with it.
After almost 6k hours, I’m over it. Single player, mutliplayer, official, it’s just a bad game. I’ve been in Alpha and Megatribes that whole point is to crush anyone that comes onto the server ( destroying external community ) and treat their members while slaves. Single player is boring. It’s just a matter of time to when you’ll win the game based on rnd ( dino breeding ) and a huge time sink. Unoffical is stupid crazy rates which is just raiding and blowing things up and PvE, yeah good luck finding any place to build.
People are buying dinos to get the best, there is just no point and the bugs and lag are just rampant. I’ve finally had it and I implore you to skip this game, it’s not worth it.
Ark Survival Evolved is a must have experience for any into survival games. The game is unforgiving and a simple walk on the beach can lead to impending doom. The game show little mercy and connections have to be made in order to survive, the game mechanics can use some optimization, and I have personally lost many kits due to bugs and the mesh randomly sucking me in, yet for some reason I always come back to this game.
This its a good game. i love it since 2017 when i seen this game at a youtuber and i have it on epic games and i played it like 200 hours in like 4-5 months ( since it was free on epic games) . i do recommand this game if you like adventures ,dinosaurs and farming. i will buy it on a sale in this year christmas to play it and support the game developer even if i dont have a good amount of money (if someone can help me on a sale with it i will be very happy, thank you :) ). this game got good graphics. i love this game.
Doesn’t allow you to run a single player game with mods most of the time when launching the game. When it does it takes forever to do so. Beginning to regret buying this game in the first place now
Screw wild card and screw this game. They’ve been putting out the same, broken, non optimized, held together with duct tap and twine crap game over and over for years and its all still just ark with a different name. Why don’t you guys actually try making something of quality for once.
I loved this game it diserves more players but don’t play if you hate looters there is one problem. To set up a server is too hard I would sugest to make it easyer to set one up. And plz bring back the event I got raided reacently and I have no dinos no metal and no items plz bring back the resores thing
Well I come from the World of DarkSouls, and I will say I have died so many times I should almost get a Medal for facing the Reaper… Dumb me put the difficulty on 0.500 and chose to spawn in the medium level area just to spawn right beside a carno. Papa I want to go home
I purchased the game on sale, used to play on consol and thought hey–for $10.00 heck yeah I would love to start up again on PC… only problem is that only AFTER you download the game you find out it requires you also install ‘Battleye’ anticheat software to play.
Now, a lot of games have anticheat software, so on the surface this looks fine–right? WRONG. ‘Battleye’ is incredibly intrusive software that gives the dev/dev’s at Battleye complete access and, if wanted, total control of your system. In an ideal scenario it would only send snapshots of active processes, but it actually sends your listed IP and send disk-level data and files that are stored indefinitely on Battleye servers. So if you have some pissed off Dev who hates his job he can easily copy everything over from your disk and even worse he can actually execute programs on your system.
I’m extremely pissed off that I just wasted $10.00 for a game that wants me to install what is essentially intrusive spyware. Extremely disappointed as I loved this game on consol and was planning to play the crap out of this title until they made installing Battleye a requirement for PC.
P.S. - it’s now required for UNOFFICIAL servers as well so there’s absolutely no way around the invasive Battleye requirement.
One of the worst optimized, laggy, and repulsive games I have ever played. I can’t even say anything about the game, as the performance is too atrocious to even comprehend. If you spend $50 on this game you should take some time off for self reflection.
Very involved and challenging game, though it is not for the faint of heart. It is very easy to rage and this game and it takes a lot of time to move up in the game, though you are really never safe. Even when you think you are at the highest levels you can still wind up killed by a dino and lose all your stuff. It is very fun though and a constantly evolving game.
I’ve been in and out of this game a dozen times since it was in Alpha years ago. I didn’t get the big picture early on and I quit because it just seemed like an endless building game.
It kept pulling me back. I’ve played over 700 hrs on pc and probably close to that on console.
Played with my friends, others on good servers and toxic servers as well. The community is vast and the available learning resources are many.
Fact is Ark is one of the all-time great games. It has given me some of my most memorable gaming moments. Some of those were great fun. Some were heart-breaking. Some were controller/mouse smashing rage quits.
The Ark is out to reward you for your efforts and also to punish you for your mistakes and sometimes just for being alive.
If you take the time look for a good server with good people, approach it with patience and the understanding that you will suffer for your rewards, you can find a game that will bring you a lot of entertainment.
Ark is Massive. There is so much that one could either complain or boast about. Here is my take of it in general.
Short Answer is 9/10, still enjoy the game to this day, however some bug issues do really get old. Overall I would highly recommend.
Long Answer is below.
Awesome Game. Tons of pathways to explore, crafting, building, PVP - PVE, Boss battles, tons of DLC available. Really there is no argument from anyone that there isn’t enough content available. My only real issue is that the game could run so much more consistent, and yes I know PC specs and so on can cause a multitude of issues, however, if you look at the community as a whole, everyone keeps requesting one common thing.
Fix the game.
That’s game breaking experiences, not minor glitches.
Example: If I am trying to tame a max level whatever and I shoot it and I can see my projectile hit and its sticking out of it, show a hit marker and even further if on my screen I’m aiming for it and what should be hits are not registering fix that somehow. These are issues I have no answer for nor could I fix if I wanted to, I just have been playing the game since near after launch and I do have to agree with the community that Wildcard at times seems to be more driven to push the Next best thing, sometimes before they fix the errors included in the last best thing.
Overall it’s a great game, tons of replay value, the majority of people play online so it can be a social driven game, such as tribes and wars, and all that political stuff. Or you can play by yourself and just explore and build.
If you read this far buy the game you won’t regret it. If it is on sale like it is now, I would jump on it, totally worth it.
Honestly this review barely scratches the surface, this is something you will have to experience yourself, I hope if you are reading this looking for clarity, that you found it.
Constant crash loop upon entering game, no matter the mode you chose. Looked up multiple fixes for the problem and all lead to the same road…nothing same lowlevelfatal error. Some fixes require the changing of this and that, while there is no way that I can even play the game as it doesn’t even allow me to pick anything as it crashes literally 15 seconds after it is launched. Do yourself a favor and stay away from a game that won’t even let you play it. Complete waste of money and time. No game should have this type of error upon the initial start of the game, it should be ready to play and shouldn’t keep you running through loops to fix it, then never actually fix it. Again, buy something else this game is a complete sham!!!
This game is epic, no I don’t meant the bloatware Epic Games, I mean this game is really good. At least the earlier content is to me. The new stuff is straying from what I initially fell for, Dinosaurs and building. The latest stuff seems to be out of some Alien Sci-Fi flick - Avatar would fit but with super advanced tech.
While there has always been an element of tech to the game, for me, it is going over the top. No doubt I will at least spend some time on the new stuff but it is unlikely that I will play for more than a couple hours.
Aside from straying too deep into alien and sci-fi territory this game was always super fun to play and sink MANY hours into.
Although, it’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’ve waited a long time to write this review. I’ve been playing off an on since beta. Lots of graphical improvements, but not much more than that. I upgraded my graphics card to one that was supposed to favor this game and it still did not help much. I recently got the aberration expansion and the frame rate while hosting a non-dedicated session is trash. Running and moving the camera frequently made me hit below 15 fps. The resource collection to time is also trash unless you fiddle with the settings. I love the concept of the dinosaurs and the beautiful scenery, but all of the issues have finally compounded for me. Bad building snap points, getting launched into the air because a rock was stepped on in one spot, and my partner literally dying for no reason is just totally Ark. Wildcard has had so many years to get their crap right and I always find myself disappointed after a certain point.
